Vince Botz:

“Stearns County and the Dakota War”

Vince Botz - Author

His talk will include causes leading up to the Dakota War. The talk will also mention the Ojibwe's involvement. After touching on the causes, he will be mentioning Stearns County involvement and St. Cloud's involvement in the war. Saint Cloud has a few victims buried in North Star Cemetery including Joe Whitford, Ambrose Freeman and another notable Samuel Holes, the designer of Fort Holes and it had a few incidents involving refugees. The fort was located on the current SCSU campus. Another story he will explain is about the victim from St. Cloud is possibly buried in Calvary Cemetery is Nicholas Brisse. Stearns County had 9 victims which were killed by the Dakota, not near the devastation of the Minnesota River Valley, but the deaths may have been much higher if the Ojibwe and Winnebago joined.

STEARNS COUNTY AND THE DAKOTA WAR OF 1862, will be signed sold and signed for $15 for anyone interested.
